Every time we share our story with anyone, one of the first questions we are asked is...”How did we choose YWAM and where we would go?”
When we sitting in a regular church service, after God had already moved us out of our “secure world” & “dream job” in Montana and placed us in Florida...God spoke to Brad the very moment the pastor started talking-not after the sermon-BEFORE. God put it on his heart to give or sell everything we had and go overseas. At the end of the service, Brad asked Heather if we could do that and Heather said, “Yes.”
When we went home, we got on the computer and looked at a few different missions websites, but none of them even looked interesting to us. Then we ran across YWAM. We knew a couple kids from our youthgroup in Montana that had gone with YWAM for summer missions and came back changed, so that peaked our interest. Then, we just broke down the name, Brad is focused on “youth”, Heather is focused on “missions”, it just made sense.
As we started looking up job opportunities, suddenly the entire world was open to us, but we didn’t want PLACE to be our deciding factor. We looked at ministry descriptions only. Heather read a brief description of a base that had a small amount of ministries and both of our hearts connected with that base immediately. Brad sent an email committing our family to that base and those ministries and in the email asked them to email us back quickly to let us know what’s next or let us know if they didn’t want us or need us. Then Brad went back to playing with Aspen & Addy and about 5 minutes later asked Heather where we had committed ourselves. Heather said, “I think Argentina.” Brad said, “Where’s that?” We figured out it was South America and 2 months later we had sold or given everything away and were living in Argentina! The base we had committed to (Bariloche, Argentina) emailed us to let us know that we should do our training at another base (Puerto Madryn, Argentina) on the other side of the country, but we would talk after we finished our training.
